Juneau 3 days trip.
We planned 3 days combined trip to Juneau and Gustavus Island. We thought we can spend time Juneau on last day, by night return to Seattle.
We had 2 hour flight to Juneau, it is very scenic as flight is smaller one it fly at a bit lower altitudes, and one can see the landscape very clearly. All mountains near to Juneau is almost filled with snow we saw many glaciers
on our flight trip. We saw Mendenhall glacier very clearly from the top while landing to Juneau and while going and coming back from Gustavus in smaller planes.
As there were only 4 passengers on plane, we were given smaller plane to Gustavus in the afternoon, flight
trip is very funny and I really enjoyed, as I was silent
co-pilot. we saw Menhenhall Glacier, we spotted few
Dall Sheep on mountain top On the way to Gustavus from Juneau. We landed in Gustavus by 1:25PM. Within 30 mins we reached at Glacier Bay Lodge and we
checked in to lodge. After checked out in the lodge we went to one of the trail near the lodge.
almost everyone would begin the experience of Glacier Bay by arriving to the lovely little community of Gustavus in Southeast Alaska. This charming little "town" has less than 500 year round residents, but sees an influx of many thousands more over the summer months. The reason for this is because Gustavus has become the internationally recognized "Gateway to Glacier Bay National Park". The official entrance to the park along with the Glacier Bay Ranger Station headquarters and official Glacier Bay Lodge is located only 8 miles from Gustavus. With the only airport in the area that gets you close to the park headquarters, Gustavus IS your starting point to experiencing Glacier Bay in Southeast Alaska.
Next morning we had Glacier Bay National park cruise to glaciers.
Glacier Bay is a natural waterway from Alaska's Inside Passage to the
tidewater glaciers that are the park's main attraction.
This time we went till glaciers. We saw more than 3 glaciers including Lamplugh Glacier and John Hopkins Glaciers. There are ice bergs near glacier but boat is allowed to go till a mile
before. We saw abundant wildlife in the cruise,
couple of bears, humpback whales, killer whales, Minke whales, seals, sea
lions, sea otters, Porpoises, bald eagles and finally star bird puffins.
It was first weekend it seems so many guests are invited and filled many high level personal had visited for the night. best chefs from Aramark agency were present at the glacier bay lodge and restaurant to entertain guests. After 8 hr cruise, we had dinner at the restaurant in the park. we had crab cake and salmon. it was very very delicious especially crab cake was excellent. we spent lot of time at the lodge watched couple of free movies in
lodge in Movie Theater. We slept early to get up early and catch out flight back to Juneau. Return Juneau flight is better than while coming.
We had more than 8 hrs in Juneau to spend, it
slightly raining by the time we landed in Juneau from Gustavus. We went to Juneau downtown by city transportation. By the time we went to Juneau downtown. There are 4 cruise ships landed on Juneau Marine Park. Juneau downtown is crowd fully visitors arrived from various cruise. We spent couple of hours in Juneau till our flight time then we headed back to airport by
public transportation.
Some of the places worthy watching in Juneau are hike to Mendenhall Glacier,Tracy Arm, Mount Roberts tram and Glacier gardens.
